On October 6, 2011, the FDA announced that tadanafil (Cialis) has been approved to treat BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy) either alone or when it occurs with erectile dysfunction. The decision was based on two studies in which men taking 5 mg daily had significant improvements in BPH symptoms. Another trial showed that the drug simultaneously improved symptoms of BPH and ED.
COMMENT: This is good news for men with either of these conditions but especially if you have both. It would be interesting to study the benefits of Cialis versus other drugs for BPH, since many of the standard drugs work in only a minority of patients.
