Researchers in Taiwan (Lancet, Aug 2011) revealed that even exercising 15 minutes a day significantly lowered mortality as well as cancer incidence. These patients were labeled as "low volume", averaging 92 minutes of exercise weekly, compared to "inactive"...less than 60 minutes per week.
COMMENT: Current guidelines recommend 150 minutes weekly of leisure-time physical activity to obtain a variety of health benefits. Many people are not motivated to perform this much activity but this study should help many realize that even small amounts of exercise are beneficial.
